The CMYK color on my screen and the color that prints do not match. For example, on screen i have pure magenta in CMYK and it prints out red; Cyan on screen prints out purple, etc.
I have just downloaded CS and all Photoshop documents and PageMaker docs are all printing perfectly in color.
I am new to Indesign (1.3) and I assume that the setting in either the Print>Profile menu or Edit > Color Settings are not what they should be. Does anyone know why the colors are printing like this only in Indesign and what settings i need to have to change it to print correctly in CMYK?
Thank you in advance.

I'm on CS so I don;t know if the settings are the same for your version.

You're generally ok to pick US Prepress Default in the color settings on the edit menu. If you have that picked and you're getting the lousy output, try Color management off and see what happens.

Depending on your printer, ID will change the settings in the Output section of the Graphics window. If you have an RGB inkjet, the output will go to composite RGB if you select that printer. If you've got a PS printer, you should get the Composite CMYK.

When you get the Print screen in ID, click on the Printer button at the bottom of the window, to make sure that your settings for the printer are ok.

An awful lot of this stuff is very dependent on your computer (mac - pc etc) and the printer, so it's kind of hard to give you more info based on what you stated. One thing you might try is to make a pdf and print from that - seeing if the results are better. Since I'm invariably sending pdf's to printers and publications anymore (as opposed to ID, Quark, or Pagmeker packages) I run all my proofs of the pdf rathe than the design app.
