CMS Real-time Report - Refresh Rate 1

Is it true that giving a CMS user the minimum allowable refresh rate to to run real-time reports (say 4 sec's) will it slow down the CMS server's processor in any way? If known, can you provide a link to the doc that details this subject? Thanks in advance.

In the Minimum refresh rate (seconds): field, enter the number of seconds (3–600)
in which data for real-time reports is retrieved again from the database and displayed
for this user ID.
! Important:
Faster refresh rates consume more CMS processor resources.

I would think that it would be nice if they would mention how the varying refresh rates .vs number of users, etc., affects the processor resources. As a precaution, we usually use 20 seconds. But, it's just a number we picked out of the sky, because, there certainly was no engineering involved....
