It seems that every morning ( for the past couple of days) CMS is in stopped status, I have had to manually restart CMS twice..

Can't see anything helfpul in event viewer. Can someone point me to a log file I should be looking at, or at least point me in the direction, in terms of pin-pointing the area of issue.?

does the CMS service depend on the CMS database or vice versa?

In general why would a Service stop unexpectedly on Windows Server?

Environment

Windows 2003
SQL Server- 2005

Hi,
The CMS depends on a good connection to its database.
(BTW, what database is being used?)
IIRC,if the database is shutdown the CMS service will stop and will not restart unless the database is up and running.

As to why a service would stop, there can be far too many reasons to enumerate - usually the system or application event viewer will have the details as to why.

When you say database. Are yo talking about the CMS database or the external database?

Hi,
The CMS database is the one that can prevent the CMS service from running..It needs to be constantly accessable since the CMS service polls it regularly ( I seem to remember).
If that database is shut down ( like for a scheduled backup, for instance) the CMS service should be stopped first or some data could be lost.
