sjs1717 is correct...once the BIOS has handed off to the Operating System its function is complete. Are you saying that when the CMOS battery is removed and the PC case closed up, that the PC runs fine hour after hour once it's booted and the clock re-set?

the 1st thing for you to look at is what were you doing when it hung up? any messages displayed? bsod(blue screen of death)? i know this may sound obvious but it is the best starting point.
