My Computer is seven years old and the CMOS battery has never been replaced. (MB is Intel D815EEEA9) Should this battery be replaced periodically, or should I take the position that, "If it ain't broke don't fix it".
Thanx in advance.
JG.
Yes, you should buy a new battery, attached to a new Core 2 Duo PC. Seven years old! Quite the dinosaur.
Seriously there should be no harm done either way, if you have custom BIOS settings I would index them to be safe. I am in the same boat, about 5 or 6 of my office PCs are of that age or older and since the PCs will start & work without a battery, I choose to let them die. I've only had one go so far, and that was a 1999 machine.
For the price you will pay, yes, buy a battery. When it finally dies you will be able to swap it out when it is convienent for you, not after you make a trip to the store.
And you do have the CMOS settings documented, don't you?
