Hello

We've just got CME at work and have finally got it rolled out. One of the biggest complaints we have had is that users cannot see who is calling them (when an external call comes in the phones just say 'Private').

Does anyone know any way of getting the external numbers displayed ??

Thanks in advance

is caller ID enabled on the lines? I am running 2 PRIs and caller id number came through without a problem. Nothing to configure. Caller ID name, well that is a different issue. Lots of postings in here about caller ID. Do a quick search.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I must admit I can't tell if Caller ID is enabled - any hints on where to look ?
I have had a look at other topics but most of them seem to be off-topic or referring to the full Call Manager.

Any more help appreciated.

Neil

What kind of line is it (Channelized T1, PRI, POTS, BRI, etc)?

We have 2 ISDN (BRI) lines going into the switch

were do the ISdn line terminate? That sounds like the root of your problem.

Into the switch? What are you using to terminate the calls? If it is a cisco product, use

debug isdn q931

and you can see all the call setup information. ISDN, by default, will give you the calling number. To get the name, you would have to get it turned on by the provider.

From Private" usually indicates that the caller does not have Caller ID enabled. Big coroporations (especially in the UK) don't allow CLID on their outgoing lines.

This is certainly true of our THUS E1 lines here.

Best thing is to find a mobile phone that you know has CLID enabled (most phones allow this to be disabled in their settings) and phone your CME. If it still comes up "From Private", then sure, you have a configuration problem. If it comes up with the number, then you'll know that you've just been unlucky with the people who have called you so far.

On an MGCP gateway like a Catalyst 6806, you allow CLID by using Call Manager - Device/Gateway, then search for your gateway. Then scroll down through the settings and put a tick in "Display IE Delivery".

But if you're using 2 BRIs for your delivery, it's doubtful that you're using a non-ios MGCP-based gateway. Hopefully someone on this forum can help with IOS-based configuration.
