CMDUs and HDDs: how to restore?

I've got an 81c (rls 24) that suddenly disabled its backup CMDU. from LD 137 I've given it ENL CDMU 1 and it returns "NO ACCESS TO CMDU 1." When I STAT the CMDU I get "CMDU 1 DISABLED (No Access to HDK)." I suspect that the HDD or SCSI cables have failed.
My questions) are:
1. Do I have to reload the system software if I replace the HDD, or will it sync up with the active core automatically?
2. Once I have the disk partitioned and software installed, what is the best way to resynch the database with that of the active core?
3. Will this process interrupt service?

Thanks in advance.

hi,
u will need to reload the s/w. then it will sync with the active core.it shd not disrupt the service. but better u do it during off hours

cheers

Yeah, it worked out pretty well. The active CMDU 'saw' the new one, and the SYNC command did a sector-by-sector copy of the OS and the database. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Thanks for the advice.

check with your maint provider..there are some cmdu's that will fail, just because.

Nortel was aware of this and offering free replacements, but that was last year.
