when i run lscfg commands and lsdev commands
they hang.. why?

thanx duke,

iam running 5.2.
command for checking firmware.

bye

Also :
1.check "errpt" output - watch out for disk/tape/HW errors.
2.Run "cfgmgr -v" and see if it sticks and where.
3.Check "df" for any full FS.

Long live king Moshiach !

to check your firmware level:
lsmcode
or
lscfg -vp|grep Cabinet
*warning*
either of these commands may hang or even hang the system if you have the above problem.
check the ML first to see if you are likely to have the problem:
oslevel -r
will tell you the AIX level and the maintenance level.
if you get no output you are running base 5.2, i.e. AIX 5.2 ML0.

sorry, the above "lscfg -vp|grep Cabinet"
should give you the machine serial number....doh,
for the firmware use:
lscfg -vp | grep alterable
the "description" link on the IBM microcode link above, for your machine type will tell you "How to Determine Currently Installed Firmware Levels" if the above commands do not work.
