Folks,

We have a CM / Definity system (G3r R011r.7585.7.0.2) with the hardware processor. We changed the alarming level to Major and the system is still sending out minor alarms.

Any thoughts on how to stop the minor alarms from being send out via a modem? Yes, the best avenue is to simply fix what the issue is. However, the site does not want us responding to minor alarms.

Seems I've addressed this but it has been many years.

Thanks!

not a good idea, a minor level alarm will give some some time to get it resolved prior to it escalating itself to a major and then it may be too late, are you changing it in system parm maint?

No, I agree, best route it to fix the problem. Changing system maintenance to major is still sending the minors.

Below are the only alarming options available in the Definity sending to alarm
receiver. Alarm receiver such as alarmtraq can filter alarms on the receiving end.

Thanks!

Just to clarify, the question was if anyone knew why setting the "CPE Alarm Activation Level: warning" to "major" did not stop minors from being reported.

CPE Alarm Activation Level: warning

Why would changing this to any setting stop Avaya Hardware alarms from being reported?
Avaya Alarming only reports Major and Minor for Avaya Hardware. Avaya Hardware Warnings are not reported.

The setting you changed is for Customer-Provided Equipment (CPE) Alarms

set options form allows changes to off-board warnings which by default, are not reported.

Thanks again. I'm looking for clarification on that setting - nothing 100% clear but I found this:

To configure an Avaya Switch to automatically transmit alarms to the SOS
receiver, log in to the switch and type change system-parameter maintenance
at the command prompt.
Change the CPE Alarm Activation Level to minor.

Not sure if it's the dealer admin login or just not permitted but set "options" is not available to me.

Code:
Customer-Provided-Equipment Alarm
The Customer-Provided-Equipment (CPE) Alarm is a customer-provided device,
such as a lamp or a bell, that indicates an alarm situation. This device lets you
know that a system alarm has occurred and that the system has attempted to
contact the appropriate service organization about the problem.
DEFINITY ECS activates the CPE Alarm when an event occurs that corresponds
to, or is more severe than, the administered alarm level. You can administer the
CPE Alarm for only one of the following levels.
* Major Alarm — A vital system hardware component has failed. An alarm of
this level may seriously affect overall service.
* Minor Alarm — A hardware component that may affect service on a limited
scale has failed.
* Warning Alarm — A problem may exist with a hardware component, but
the problem does not affect service.
DEFINITY ECS automatically deactivates the CPE Alarm when the problem that
caused the alarm is resolved. If there are multiple problems, the CPE Alarm
remains active until all problems at or above the administered alarm-activation
level are resolved.
For more information, see DEFINITY Enterprise Communications Server
Installation for Single-Carrier Cabinets or DEFINITY Enterprise Communications
Server Installation for Multiple-Carrier Cabinets manuals.

Well, we are out of luck on disabling/enabling maintenance objects as well because Avaya doesn't publish the logical numbers.

I guess the folks that maintain our alarm reporting system will just have to deal with the unneeded minor alarms since we are only contracted to work majors......

Thanks

dadmin login has permissions to enable and disable maintenance objects
Which maintenance objects are you referring to?

Yes sir, we can do it - the issue is knowing what logical numbers go for the maintenance objects. I located a few on tek-tips but I was on with support yesterday, they have to open SRs to make the changes and won't provide the listing.

One is EXP-INTF......

4129 (0x1021) = MO_EI_BD

Command: disable MO logical 4129 physical 1c02
