I have been tasked with researching whether or not my company has to upgrade to CM5 from CM3.1.4

Of course this was not budgeted for.

I have tried to sell the upgrade with the "PROS" of doing it, but there is just not enough for them to sway in favor. Looking at the "CONS" side is now the way I am going.

If we do not do it, and ride out our current 3-year maintenance contract we could possibly be fine. The problem I have is they want a "guarantee" that we will not run into any situation that will require us to upgrade to CM5 in the next 3 years.

I have never dealt with this side of things before, and am wondering if any of you can help please me with the "PROS" and "CONS" of doing or not doing the upgrade at this time. Funds wise they want me to justify not doing it, but like I said I cannot give them the guarantee they want. So, I am looking for worse case if we do not go with any upgrade.

I am pretty sure I am not interested in paying for the SS+U portion as I believe it is at least another $60k+ dollars.

Thanks in advance!!!

It's very simple: AVAYA only officialy supports up to 2 major releases back.

CM5 is current, therefore right now, CM4 and CM3 are supported.

When CM6 is released in a few months, CM3 will fall of the supported releases list, meaning, if a bug is discovered, no patches will be written for it, and they will not investigate bugs.. even if you have maintenance, even then, they will suggest you upgrade to something newer, they just will not put time into supporting releases older than 2 major versions back.

That is AVAYA's official policy, and they are not about to change it.

BTW, CM 3.1.5 is out now, I suggest you upgrade your system to that, at least you will have the most recent CM3 release

If you do upgrade to CM 5.x be aware of the following:

Any MAPD boards (which are no longer supported anyway) must be upgraded to an AES server.

CM 5.x also has the new SSU support cost model and can cost you a very hefty up front sum.
