Hi

Can I do clustering on Sparc 10's? I have only 1GB internal drives in both of them but I can connect external scsi drives. I have one multipack with 6 times 2gb drives. Company cannot spend money to purchase any software or hardware. This only for my practice.

If I can do this, from where I need to start.
Thanks in adavance for you advise.

I guess you can, you don't need too much CPU power to make a test... just have enough LAN ports and external/shared SCSI disk drives (1 is enough, 2+ is better).

Actually, it depends on software requirements. check requirement for these out:
Veritas Cluster
Legato Automated Availability Manager

Cheers.

I can't remember what a Sparc 10 looks like, but they will need at least 2 network adaptors, one for the cluster heartbeat and 1 to your real network. The heartbeat link requires a cross over cable. Ideally you should have 2 of each on seperate cards for resilience, but as this is only a test, 1 of each will do.

You need to be able to connect the multipack to both servers.

You could use Solstice Disk Suite (which is on the Solaris media) to configure the shared disks to give simple mirroring. But again for a test this can be left out.

However you will need the clustering software, either Veritas as Chacalinc suggested, or Sun Cluster 2.2 or 3, which I prefer. This, I suspect, will have a cost.

When the software really starts becoming intresting for educational purposes it always costs money :(

I have multiple ultra10's in a cupboard with 4Gb IDE internal drives and extra scsi cards + network port & various diskpacks.
Clustering them would have been a nice personal project, but costly.
