Hello

I have never performed clustering and have been tasked with investigating it's potential.

If you want to use clustering with SQL server do you need Enterprise edition?
We would be using SQL server on MS 2003 Enterprise server (OS that allows clustering)

Is it SQL, the OS or both that allow clustering?

Thanks

Both are required.

Wondows EE or datacentre will allow you to cluster the OS and SQL EE is required for clustering on the nodes you add in.

HTH,

M.

If you are using SQL 2000 then Enterprise Edition is required.

If you are using SQL 2005 then Standard Edition will be fine so long as you only want a two node cluster. If you need three or more nodes then Enterprise Edition is required.

Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition is required for clustering.
