Clustering I Servers

I have a new project which involves the clustering of IServers. I have a couple of questions regarding this:

1)Has anyone used a monitoring tool other than PERFMON for capturing usage and performance? I would like to get some stats on before/after performance. I find PERFMON somewhat difficult to interpret results.

2)Does anyone know of a whitepaper in existance that may provide some benchmark results?

3)Any other learning experiences you may have?
