Hi,

We are running Business Objects Enterpise XI R2 SP2 on two Windows 2003 Server boxes on the same subnet, but not in a domain. We have a workgroup instead. Both machines belong to the same workgroup. The CMS cluster performs as it should in a clustered environment. One of the machines has the CMS database and the Input and Output folders on it.

Our problem occurrs when trying to point both sets of file repository servers to the one physical disk location.

In the CCM we stopped both sets of FRS services and changed the LocalSystem account to an account in the local administrators group. We didn't use the actual local Administrator account. These user accounts were set up identically on both machines with the same login name and password.

Both sets of FRS services start using these user accounts.

Using Windows Explorer, we have shared the Input and Output folder locations on the machine with the file store.

When we log in to the CMC and try to change the root directory of the FRS services, we use a UNC path to point to the shared folders. When we attempt to restart the FRS services, they stop immediately. On looking in the Event Viewer, the error message "System Problem Encountered: Failed to set up the root directory \\Machine_Name\Input\ for use. Please make sure permissions are correct and there is no sharing violation."

Using Windows Explorer Sharing and Security, under the Security tab, we are unable to add the local administrator user from the machine that does not have the file store and give them permissions to the Input and Output folders.

I thought that if both local administrator accounts were set up identically, it would pass though the security credentials and allow us to cluster the FRS without using a domain account.

Any help would be gratefully received. Thank you.

It sounds like one machine does not "trust" the other.

I'm not a Windows security expert but I know you can setup a trust relationship between machines, workgroups and even domains.

Have a look around the net for tips on setting up trust relationships between workgroups.
