Hi All,

i have an issues on a 2005 cluster whereby the instance keeps restarting. i believe it is related to index reorganization and rebuilding tasks. the reorg task is scheduled to run each night at 2am (clients wish, not my recommendation) and a weekly rebuild at 2 am on Sunday morning. the problem is the instance restarts itself during the job so all indicators point to it as the source of the issue. there is tempdb I/O errors in the event viewer but the alert log has the following:

Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 0 to 1. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install.
Configuration option 'Agent XPs' changed from 1 to 0. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install.
Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 1 to 0. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install.

do these informational messages occur naturally or is there something more worrying occurring?

the is also an error in the system event viewer with the following:

Cluster resource 'SQL Server' in Resource Group 'SQL Server Group' failed.

Any information\tips would be greatly appreciated.

Those are naturally occuring messages that indicate the SQL Server is finishing up starting tasks. You want to look at the end of the errorlog.1 file, to see what errors were encountered just before the failover.

If I/O errors are showing up in the event viewer, you may want to make sure that the firmware on any of your disk controllers/raid cards/IO devices are up to date. i would also run DBCC CHECKDB on all of the user databases to make sure there have not been other I/O problems associated with them and they have not become corrupt.
