Hello,

I am new to the whole clustering thing. I have 4 HP DL380 servers that I want to use for clustering. It is attached to a SAN cluster for storage. I have configured the cluster. I have a resources in the default cluster group including the quorum disk. When I shut down all but one server, I am able to connect to the quorum disk. When I bring them all online and start the Cluster Administrator, everything comes online. When I initiate failover it works. But when I try to the cluster group resources to another node in that cluster, it does not work. The original node keeps ownership. I have tried unplugging the original node, but this takes the entire cluster offline. When I plug it back up, the cluster comes back online. Can someone please help me?

Thanks in advance,
batekhead

When you are on a console of one of the nodes you can only view the drive resource if you are on the node that it active for that resource.

If Node1 owns the resource then only Node1 can see that resource. If Node2 needs to see the resource it needs to own the resource.

I understand that. My problem is that it will not failover to another node. If the node that owns the resources goes down, be it by accident or force, the entire cluster goes offline and will not allow another node to come online to take ownership. How do I fix this issue?

Thanks.

What is in the event log when you try to fail over to another node?

Is all the software for the resource available on the other node?

What resources are in the resource group?

Hello batekhead,

to say something definite about the root cause of the problem the cluster log should be analyzed. But 99% of this behaviour is the multi-path driver.Update your driver. If this do not solve your problem, install the listed below hotfixes.

Event ID 50, 26, or 57 is logged when you use HP SecurePath on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or an x64 edition of Windows
A disk signature is unexpectedly changed on a Windows Server 2003 clustered physical disk resource

Also install the listed below hotfixes
Recommended hotfixes for Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1- based server clusters

Kind regards,
