Closing Word takes forever

We have a 350mhz compaq with 128 meg of ram. When we open a word document it loads straight away. When we save or close this document it takes around 60 seconds. I would prefer not to reformat this machine as it has user specific software on it. Do you know why this process would take what semms forever

I had a similar problem a while ago, and found that the problem was Outlook recording to it's journal.

If you're running outlook, try changing the journal options - tools/options/ journal (depends on the version), and remove the word check.
