One thought is to have a cronjob that moves an edited version of the /etc/services file into place. And then refresh the inetd subsystem. Then replace the origional /etc/services file when you need all the ports to open back up. (refresh inetd again too).

Hello,

When you say port are opened by database, do you mean that they are controlled by a database process ? (not refered by inetd.conf). Because if the port is opened by the process itself then no, you cannot control it. If it is an inetd controlled port, then there are solutions like the one given by crow, or even some other like tcpwrapper.
