Hello all...

Experiencing interesting problem, Win 2k WS, 256Ram, plenty of hdd space. The machine works fine after boot up but as day goes on gets slower and slower and eventually gets "low virtual memory" error msg. This user is not using any real resource intensive applications. Tried increasing VM size, no luck. One thing that I noticed is that the task manager is still listing processes as running and using up Ram that have been long closed by the user. Haven't been able to find any answers on this issue elsewhere, any ideas would be appreciated. thx...

run a virus scan?

run ad-aware/spybot or similar?

There are programs that run as services in Win2K and closing the program won't shut down the service such as Adobe Acrobat Reader and some times Outlook will still run even though the user closes the program. Try opening all the programs the user normally uses and see how they show up in task manager then close them all and see which ones remain. Then you can find out how to close them or disable their service related function in the Services program under Administrative Tools.

Have you closed the applications directly from the Task Manaer? or just X'd them out of the way?

Just this morning, for example, I had outlook open with a new message in my inbox...when I closed Outlook, the tray icon for a new mail message remained in my system tray until I double clicked it and marked my message as read. Some part of the app was still running.

I was just curious is you ended the app from the device manager.
