Once I open outlook 2000 and I know someone has sent me a message since I opened outlook I have to close then open to receive that message. Could someone tell me how to correct this? Please!

Take a look at Send/Receive settings and try changing the interval to more frequent checking.

Tools, Options, Mail Setup, Send/Receive ... is the menu path in my version of Outlook (2002)

Does changing Outlook folders from say In Box to Sent Items and then back to In Box also work? This sounds like a problem intriduced with Windows security patch from many months ago.

Are you using Outlook over a network to a Windows Server with Exchange and possibly ISA server running?

I looked at the send/receive settings they are okay. I am using Windows with Microsoft Exchange Server, not sure of ISA(what is this? - Internet Service ?????) I still need to look at the path as someone mentioned in an earlier reply. Any other suggestions?

make sure your outlook is working online and not offline.

Open- Outlook - File - should say Online

ISA = Internet Security and Acceleration server is a Microsoft software firewall and part of the Small Business Server Suite. A while back MS released a security update that disabled some network traffic protocols to block a security hole.

The effect was to stop some Outlook updates. To resolve this, it is necessary to enable Exchange at the ISA server level. The symptoms you describe fit this perfectly. I suggest you get your SysAdmin to check out the MSKB article.

Thanks, we don't really have such a person, would you mind telling me where I need to go to enable the Exchange as the ISA Server, please?

Sorry. I specialise in Desktop Applications and leave servers to the server gurus. I only know of the problem because I experienced it. Your best bet would be to post the query on an apporpriate Microsoft Windows newsgroup.
