Hey,

I'm hosting a website on my local machine, i saved it as an html file etc and i'm linking to some windows help files on the local machine also. When i click the link i get the dialog box that asks me if i want to Save or Open the file from its current location. I would like to be able to automatically have it open the file and not save it. Can it be done?

for security reasons, web browsers will not let a website open a file onto a users machine. Mainly this is for virus protection. Think of the abilities that a malicous webdesigner would have if he/she were able to run programs on the user's computer.

Because of that I dont think that there is a way you can bypass that dialog

if you have access to cgi capabilities, you might be able to write a cgi script that will read in the file and print it out to the browser. Robert Carpenter
