Hi people.

I have a client that want to clone his HD, is a special one because is running a CNC machine, this machine have 1 HD(80GB) running WinNT 4 SP3, i can see it went boots.

It has 2 partitions:

Partition 1 -> 4096MB FAT Active
Partition 2 -> Rest NTFS.

I plug the HD and clone the disk using ghost 12 into a new HD, I clone each partition.

Then run the chkdsk for the 2 HD, them I plu the clone disk into the machine and ... wow WinNT could boot missing or corrupted <root>system32/NTKERNL...

I try twice, with 2 HD and the same issue.

Latter I plug the original HD and wow... NT bootd but latter send me the BSOD saying that cannot find BOOT_DEVICE...

Well, googling around i found a article that say something like this "If u access partitions with WinNT 4 SP3 < inside boxes running Win NT 4 SP4 >(Win 2K/XP/2K3) you could corrupt that partition data and maybe u could damage that OS(WinNT 4 SP3<) because the NTFS Version change from sp3 to sp4+"

This is true? because right now I cannot boot with the original disk.

Then, I have some doubts:

1; Which software can help me with this task of cloning (old FAT and NTFS SP3 partitions)?

2; If I setup a machine with WinNT 4 SP3 and try to run chkdsk to the original disk, could I fixit?

3; How can I fix the problem with my old HD?

Any tips is welcome, I would appreciated a lot, thanks all for your time!!!

Hi.

I already fix the issue, just copy the ntfs.sys driver from NT4 sp6 to the box running NT4 sp3.

Thanks!!!
