cloning old aix to p5 1

Hi there:

Well, i am kind of stuck. I have a new P5 system, we need to migrate some old apps to from an old aix 4.3 system. the application is giving fits on 5.3 so i wanted to duplicated the orginal system to this new p5 os and all.

i seem to have some issues. I have tried to mksysb on the aix 4.3 to a file then mkcd to a cd.
unable to boot and install from this. so i found some information to boot form an aix 4.3 cd then use the recovery method option.

I cant seem to get this to boot, it gets sort of far then just seesm to hang after the display of "boot device"

it does boot the 5.3 cd, in which a recovery is just garbaged.

can anyone offer me any advice?

I'm fairly sure that p5 machines require at least AIX5.1 ... so booting it with 4.3 is not an option (although 4.3.3 may work ... I don't remember).

I'm sorry but you can't do that...

p5 hardware needs AIX 5L V5.3 or V5.2 ML4 to boot/install.

Also not all 4.3 apps will run on AIX 5L - if it is an AIX 4.3 64bit application, you need to recompile the source to get it to run on AIX 5L.

An AIX 4.3 32 bit application should run on AIX 5L no matter what version. The 32bit runtime environment is binary compatible between AIX 4.3 and AIX 5L. The 64 bit runtime environments are NOT.

The p5-520 requires AIX 5L Version 5.3 or AIX 5L Version 5.2 Maintenance Package 5200-04
(IY56722) or later. The use of the Advanced POWER Virtualization feature requires AIX 5L
Version 5.3.

 AIX 5L for POWER Version 5.2 5765-E62, dated 08/2004 (CD# LCD4-1133-04) or later
 AIX 5L for POWER Version 5.3 5765-G03, dated 08/2004 (CD# LCD4-7463-00) or later

IBM periodically releases maintenance packages for the AIX 5L operating system. These
packages are available on CD-ROM (FC 0907), or they can be downloaded from the Internet
at:
