Hello good Oracle Gurus!
Can someone please tell me step by step or refer me to a source where I can find info on how to clone Oracle Instances.
In order words, if I have one database but want to have multiple instances pointing to that database, how do I do it?
Thanks in advance!

So you are talking about Parallel Server not Cloning right? Wushutwist

If you want multiple instances pointed at the same database, just create a new init.ora file for each desired instance. Probably the easiest way is to copy your existing init.ora file and edit the new copy.

Since Oracle will use the initSID.ora format for a default, when you want to use the new init.ora file you will have to start the database with
STARTUP PFILE=path/to/new/file/initCLONE.ora

Of course, if you aren't using parallel server, you can only have one instance mount the database at any given time.
