Cloning AIX - multi to uni processor

I want to clone a multi processor H70 to a uni processor 44p

I have a mksysb tape (no mirrors) which boots ok - it then gets to 83% of the restore and cannot find the right unix file (unix for uni's rather than unix for multi's)

I have tried booting from a 4.3.2CD and restoring the tape, but this comes up with errors on undefined variables in a library.

This is probably because the mksysb is 4.3.3 (?)

Any ideas how to get round this

Use the same level of OS installer cd as the mksysb is, in your case, 4.3.3. In recent memory I've not cloned a multi to uni, but I have cloned wildly disparate hardware (7013 to 7025 I think it was) successfully.

I can't do that - I have 4.3.2 CDs and upgrade disks to 4.3.3

I've read elswhere on the net to install both uni and multi software on the source system and then boot from that mksysb tape - make sense ?

Yes. I've done it with CDs. You have to install the full software package on the tape and I think there is something about creating the tape as "generic" but can't remember exactly how.

Install bos.up.... and drivers for adapters on 44P on H70,
and make mksysb.

No that doesn't work - we are trying to clone across architectures. I have tried to clone a system with bos.up installed and once booted the system says it has no disks to install on !!!

Look like I've ot to get the CDs for 4.3.3

Any mirrored LVs on the source machine??
