Hi,

I am looking at cloning an RS6000 F40. The machine that I am cloning from has 1x5Gb disk and the other system has 5x4.5Gb, is there any information available on doing this using a mksysb and/or normal backups?

Thanks

Brendan

You'll need an AIX CD.

Put the mksysb in the tape drive and boot from the CD.

Select the Install option.

Navigate through the menu's to "Restore from a System Backup". Be sure to set everything according to your needs.

Let the install run.

Bill.

Check out "sysback", I think it's an IBM product, will cost you though. Much more powerful than "mksysb".

Hi

Save the Mksysb on Tape.
Insert Tape and AIX Installation CD in the New Machine.
Booting in Services Mode..Install.....Maintenance Tasks...Install from a System Backup.

How large is the rootvg "lsvg rootvg" ?????????????????????

ON F50 Select the Disks:
hdisk0 if rootvg < 4000 Mb select hdisk0
hdisk0 and hdisk1 if rootvg > 4000Gb
Shrink FS=yes.

To see any Problems are with AIX4.3.3 see in:
- Problem Solving - AIX4.3 Installation Tips

After the installation check lppchk, cfgmgr, diag -a and that all devices where Properly installed.

Then Mirror the System hdisk0 - hdisk1
