My 200GB with win2003 disk got corrupt today. After rebooting it would not start because of missing registry files (system and software) I managed to replace them with som old ones to reboot. After reboot I ran scandisk. It took about 10 hours and came up with some hundreds of files with bad clusters. when it was finished it said that the disk was OK. I have now installed a new disk and will use symantec ghost to clone the disk. When I started ghost said "checking NTFS volume - please wait" for about two hours before starting to clone. After two minutes an Application error occured stating: Read sector failure result=1, drive=0 sectors 992375 to 992439. If the problem opersists, contact symantec technical support at I OK the message and Ghost exits. I was hoping to get the most from the old disk to the new one and fix the problems there. Any ideas - anyone.

Ghost can be a pain to use when a drive has errors.

When you say clone, I take that as imaging the disk sector for sector to another disk.

If that is your goal, you need a tool that will ignore physical errors and one that doesn't "care" about file system structures. While I haven't tried it for imaging DiskPatch offers an imaging function and the product is fairly inexpensive. You can find more information about DiskPatch and other imaging software at
Best of Luck!

Thank you for answers!
Due to the importance off getting the server up and run the next day, I did it the safe, but long and hard way: New blank disk - reinstalled everything from scratch. reconfigured setting and so. Finally restored critical user/business data from rescued partition from dying disk. It took all night, but now everyone in the office is happy - I am still a bit tired 4 days later, but now it is weekend :) You all have a nice one...
