Cloning a Citrix Access Gateway device 1

Hi all

Really quick question. I've been asked to look at a Disaster Recovery plan for my organisation, which will include the Citrix Farm. We currently have a single CAG in action, on our primary site, but we also have a second CAG not doing anything. The simplest solution i can think of is to simply clone the existing device config, and use that to build the second device. Has anyone ever done this? We're specifically not wanting to do load balancing (don't ask)and so we would only ever be running one device at a time, so there shouldn't be any issue with licensing or anything, i just wanted to see if, technically, this can be done.

Is it as simple as using something like Ghost to take an image of the drive in the machine, or should it be possible to clone the existing device using the console to export the current config. I did try this but it didn't seem to bring across all of the configuration.

Any pointers about how to do this would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Chris

We're running 4.5.8.

You can export the config from the first system and import it into the 2nd. However, you may have to make some changes; assuming that your DR site is not on the same network segment as your primary site.

From a web page hit port 9001 on the Access Gateway. There is an option towards the bottom to export the config.

forgot to mention that the export option (Save entire system config) is on the maintenance tab.

Many thanks for that, was trying to do it from the management console itself, going in via the Web Page and selecting the export option gave exactly what i was looking for :)

Hi there

Well, i've finally been able to give this a try, and it didn't work.

What I did was to take the second CAG, which now has CAG 4.6 on it, and import the config backup taken from the first CAG (running 4.5.6) onto it.

I then simply swapped the network cables out of our production box, and brought the other one up on line.

However, despite appearing to work fine from an internal point of view (was able to connect to the device and launch the CAG Admin tool) and check the configuration, this all looked to be working fine. However, we weren't able to connect to the device from an external address via the Web Interface.

Having got to the Data Centre, there is a hardware difference between our two CAGs. One is a Superserver 5013c-m, and the other is an AG2010.

All i did was to export entire config from one device, and import into another. this is also the recommended method for upgrading to V 4.6 of the software, so I am trying to find out if the reason this hasn't worked could be because the devices are different hardware?

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers
