Hello, Ive been trying to find a way to make a placed fotograph as a fill for a type used in Illustrator CS2. so that the letters become filled with the placed foto pattern. and the rest of the photo needs to disappear. can you please help? i keep getting the notice that you cannot use placed files as a compound shape. is there another way?

Place the type in front of the photograph, select both, and go to Object>Clipping Mask>Make, or right click and pick "Make Clipping Mask" from the context menu.
