Does anyone have experience in converting a Clipper application to C/C++ ? I work with a very large Clipper application which we are currently thinking of redoing in C/C++ using Oracle or MS SQL Server, possibly with Powerbuilder for the user interface. Are there any tools out there to help in this, in particular to convert the Clipper code to C ?

There is a compiler for Unix called Flagship which converts clipper code to C++ for unix. Once converted to C++ on the unix machine, I would assume that the code could be copied<br>
back to a MS-DOS/WIN system and recompiled there. <br>

The Flagship product provides code which is un-maintainable. If there would be a production problem you would still need to correct the code in Clipper, then convert it using Flagship and then run it.<br>

Re. the Borland's C++ Builder, what would that do in this case? As far as I understand it is a tool to build C++ applications from scratch.<br>

I had hoped for something that could provide some real help but I realize more and more that it is down to a manual conversion/rewrite, at least if you want code which can be understood and maintained.
