Can you put Clipper applications on a Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 server and have clients logged into the server run the applications on their workstations? These are dos applications of course and they run find on a novell network in a dos window on any current versions of windows operating system.

You would need to make drive-mappings to the shared folders on the server, because that's a requirement of DOS applications (can't run then directly from an UNC path) but all else equal, it should work almost as fine as from the Netware server. In my practical experience the Netware server was quicker than the Windows server, but with up to date hardware on the server that should now be a minor or non-existing issue.

The big thing you have to worry about when running clipper databases on an NT-class server is the Windows opportunistic locking.

This MUST be disabled if you are sharing databases, which requires registry updates both on the server and the workstations.

Pls see GriffMG's post in thread 288-555754 or do a search on this forum on 'opportunistic locking' for tons of references.
