I have inherited work on an existing site and one of the rooms has An Avaya IP Office v2 with 8 expansion modules (all rack mounted)
. The PC which runs IP Office and two UPSs are also in this room. There is no separate HVAC for this space so the temperature has been 81 degrees. I know the operating temperature for this equipment is between 40-104 degrees Fahrenheit.

My question is if it is okay to have the room temperature at 81 degrees.

Thanks
Charles

Technically its in range, but its the high end of that range so less than desirable, and a pig for anyone who has to go in there to work on it. And the fact that there no HVAC means it probably goes over the supported limits on warm days.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Being new here I am not in a position to say "it's to hot in here and I'm not comfortable". Fortunately, I don't even need to work in phone closet. I need facts that either 81 degrees is too hot for the equipment room or we don't need to worry about it. I've already put my 2 cents in, additional comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Charles

You have facts, you stated them in your first post.

The hotter the equipment runs the least long it will last.

So at 81F the lifespan is a few years less than at 65F as the system itself has more than 81F inside if the room is that hot.

I have had a system in a room that had waterheaters in it and was more around the 100F mark. We had to replace the processor a couple of times and several cards over a 5 year period.
No Expansion modules on that one.
