Clients with no DC - do I need a site 1

We have just setup a new office (192.168.0.0/24) with a new DC for an existing domain which is spread across several physical international locations (the new office is in Paris). Shortly, we will be adding a firewall to this LAN which will then create another private subnet within that office for a subsidary (192.168.1.0/24). The subsidary will not have their own server, instead they will use the one we have just installed as their file and print server. What I want to know is, do I need to add a new site into Active Directory ofr the 192.168.1.0 subnet? Also, how do we tell the clients in the 192.168.1.0 subnet that the DC in 192.168.0.0 is their nearest DC and that they should use this for authentication etc?

Would really appreciate some help on this. I've googed this, and found an MS article that say the sites are used for other functions apart from replication. However, it doesn't mention what to do if you have a site without a DC.

Thanks in advance

I would add the new subnet to the same site that the closet office is in. This will direct clients to that domain controller for authentication.

Ooh, sorry ... nearly forgot - are there any other issues that I need to look at with not having a DC in that site? For example, the clients will not get broadcasts from any DC's - will this be an issue? Is there anything I need to do on our firewall (I've already setup DHCP Relay)

Thanks again

There shouldn't be. The DCs shouldn't be sending out to much broadcast traffic. All GP updates are triggered by the client machines not the DC.

So basically create a new subnet (192.168.1.0) and then bind that to the current site - Paris ... have I got it right?
That sounds correct, yes.

Windows XP doesn't require a master browser any more. A single master browser hasn't been needed since the NT 4 days. These days all machines can function as a master browser. All machines within the network address space vote for a master browser every once and a while (from what I under stand).
