I have 2 new Dell Optiplex 745 computers with Win XP Pro SP2 that will not connect to and check in with my WSUS 3.0 server. I've scoured the Internet and just can't find anything that works. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've run the following in a cmd prompt:

regsvr32 /u wuaueng.dll
deleted softwaredistribution folder
deleted windowsupdate log
net start wuauserv
wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

I have 29 computers that check in and connect just fine, but these 2 won't. I'm adding my update log and the results from the wsus client diagnostic tool. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I've been trying to figure this out for almost a week!!!

Are you applying the WSUS client settings via a GPO? If so are you sure that the GPO is being applied to these two clients?

Steve G (MCP)

Has a similar issue, it was down to ghosting images.
Basically when I created an image during the creation I allowed the machine to update etc - XP SP2 machines
During the updates a unique update number is assigned - when you ghost a machine that unique number is duplicated so WSUS will only see 'one' unique number and therefore 'one' machine.
To reslove this go into regedit;
HKLM > Software > Microsoft >
Windows > current Version > windows Update.

Look for the SUS or WSUS client ID and WSUSClientIDValidation and delete them.
Next time they log on to the network and assuming the GPO is pointing to the server they should be recognised by the WSUS server.

I have a simple VB script that deals with the issue it you want it.

I would like a copy of that script. I am having the same problem and i beleive its because we image our machines
