Im using Symantec Corporate ver 9 and I just installed a new anti-virus server on new hardware and we retired the old server we were running on. We've done this before and never had any problems, but now even though ive deployed the clients to all our workstations, most of the workstations never show up in the System Center console. The installation claims to work on all the workstations but they simply never show up in the console. Ive also tried manually putting the correct GRC.dat file on the clients and it did not seem to make any difference. I had hoped that over time more workstations would start to show up in the console, but its been a couple of days now and none are showing up.

does anyone have any suggestions about what might be going on?

thanks f

I have had the same issues too.... I installed another server but all my clients installed through network from that server is not added under that server group...

Is there a OS problem? I am migrating from W2K server to XP Pro OS...

i dont know what the problem was/is. Im moving from Win2k server to 2003 Server. I think I have solved it for my system though. There is a small configuration file... GDC.dat i think. I have a logon script that copies this file to the clients. If this .dat file is present on the client, symantec will read it and delete it once it has read it. Once the client reboots they seem to eventually show up in Symantec Control Center. I copied a few manually to test the "fix" and sometimes it seemed NOT to work, but now the clients are beginning to popup in control center so i think it might take a couple of reboots, but eventually they will all show up... i hope.

if you stop the symantec AV service, copy the grc.dat, and start the AV service then they will show up right away.

yep, the clients are getting their updates. The only problem was to get the clients/server to "talk" to begin with. Once the clients show up in the anti-virus server everything works fine. Ive just never had to resort to the configuration file before to get the clients/server to connect..
