What do I need to install to be able to login to a nw6 server from a workstation without having the client loaded on it?

I have a basic nw6 install with sp2 that is in testing to replace an nt server, if I can make it work and show the nasayers that netware is better.

Thank you for your help.

See thread - thread75-302225

TheLad provided good info. It may talk about Netware 5.1, but it also works for NetWare 6.

Why do user go into a panic when a NetWare server goes down, but accept it as normal when a Windows server goes down?

I mean what do I have to load on the netware 6 server.

Ah, now that I read your question again I see I answered it wrong. :) Your talking about Native File Access. Okay, this one is real easy to install and maintain. I don't have my cheet book with me that has the file names an locations for tweaking the NFA on NW6, so you'll need to do a search on Novell's support site.

But to install, just load the Native File Access pack from the server GUI or from the NW6 CD using NWDeploy. If you don't need Mac or Unix/Linux access, don't install them. When you install the CIFS (Windows Access) you will be asked for you server name, DO NOT give it the same name as your netware server. By default it comes up as servername_nt I think, you can change it now or later, does not matter. You will also be asked for your share points; by default it shares all volumes at the root, you can change this now or later, does not matter.

Here is a link to the online documentation. This will help you with the install.

This install is stright forward, if you can install a service pack onto a NetWare server you should have no problems installing Native File Access. The above link goes over a lot of info on this; so I don't need to point you to my cheet book (make one of your own if your memory is as poor as mine is, it helps). Be sure to read up on the "Simple Password" section; it may help you to get the budget aproved once managment types see how Novell has to use an alternat method of authentication through CIFS because of how insecure M$ NOS's are. I am at fault for not being more accurate in my question, not you in your answer.

I plan on installing a totally seperate network with nothing but the nw6 server and some workstations.

I do not plan on actually accessing the nt servers at all, since my ultimate goal is to "get rid of them".

I have been told that I can log into the nw6 server without loading the nw client on the workstation.

I need to know what services I need to load/run on the nw6 server to allow that.

I have been able to get the splash screen up from my browser that says I have successfully load nw6 but when I try to run the remote manager or web access it will not allow me to.

I do appreciate all you have done to help me and that info will certainly come in handy if I cannot convince the finance people to move off of microsoft servers.

So far I like the nw6 server. I have had it up in my lab for two weeks doing nothing but moving files back and forth and haven't had to reboot it yet. woo hoo

Thanks
