I am having problems with connecting to a Notes server on our network.
I have one new machine that came with Windows 2000 on it. The system was able to connect to our network utilizing the Microsoft Netware interface. It was not able to find our Notes server.
I then downloaded the new version of Client, version 4.8 along with service pack 3.
I put this on the W2K system and it too connected immediately to our server and provided access to the login script, internet, and all server drives.
Still I cannot hook to the notes server, it says it is not found.
I am considering trying to put up client 3.6.1 which is what works fine on the Win98 systems.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Your version of Client will not affect connectivity to your Notes server. The Notes server should use TCP/IP to connect.

Try pinging the name of your Notes Server from a CMD prompt.

DO NOT try and install the Win98 Client on your W2K machine. The clients are specifically different for the different operating systems.

You may have to configure DNS or WINS settings on the W2K PC - that is providing you have the TCP/IP protocol installed in the first place. "It's true, its damn true!"

I have looked for the tcp/ip in the network properties.
The only one there is for internet.
When I try to change the definitions in it, then I cannot get to the Internet at all.
Help again.

Are you ...

a) Going into the Control Panel
b) Choosing Network
c) Choosing the Protocol tab
d) Selecting the TCP/IP Protocol and choosing Properties

Note: these are the steps for NT but the ones for W2k should be similar. Also, please define more what you mean by the only one there is for Internet "It's true, its damn true!"

We have several thousand Win2K machines connecting to Notes R5. If your Notes server is on NT or Win2K server, you will also need to load the Client for Microsoft Networks, and use the Map Network Drive (the plain one, not the Red-N one) to map to the Notes server - the UNC will look like this -
\\notesserver\mailboxname
and the drive letter will be what ever your organizational standard is -we use N:
Our Novell clients are C32 V3.1 for Win95, and NT client 4.6 on NT WS, NT client 4.8 on Win2K WS. But you've got to load the client for MS Networks if your Notes server is on an NT box.
Good luck!
