Hi

Can anyone tell me, in Active Directory, apart from DC to DC communications, are all Client/Server comms always from Client to Server (e.g. logon requests) or are there instances where the Server contacts all of its Clients for some reason? (e.g. a broadcast)

Cheers

I would assume that Group policies would be server pushing to client

Print server could send print confirmation back to the client...WSUS server would be pushing updates as specified...AV server updating clients...

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

GPOs I believe are pulled by the client. WSUS is a pull as well I think, as in the AU client pulls the updates.

A MS consultatnt once told me that MS prefer to use pull instead of pull although I would hazard a guess that SMS is a push system.

If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?

Of course what I meant was 'MS prefer to use pull instead of push'.

thats what I figured - it seems to be working a treat anyway

havent tried the policies yet but WSUS works by setting the the GPO to tell the client where to pull from (tells waupdate to get it from the local server rather than internet). You can initiate a pull manually from the command prompt so i'm pretty certain its a pull.

The GPO is enforced on the site at the DCs so they are also told where to get their policy from which again I would think is a pull.

Cheers!
