client side content refresh no page refresh

I have a calendar, I want to switch months

a hef"index.html?currdate=nextmonth

How can I pass this variable back to the same calendar only update the calendar on the client side, not do a whole page refresh.

No I have all the info in the page, just need to get it to pass a url.parameter back to that portion of the page and get just that portion of the page refreshed
