Last evening we upgraded from 7.6.300c MS-SQL 2000 to 7.6.400b MS-SQL 2000. Prior to upgrade all workstations were working fine.

On at least 3 of the 50 clients the following is occuring.

Logging into PWE.
1. You can sign in normally.
2. When trying to open ANY application
a. MSL Error in MacMss.dll
b. Code = 0x80004002 Code meaning = No such interface supported. Table = Compfile_sql
c. Created msl error report in .....
d. SQL error open failed s:\macsq - fiel system specific error
e. System error: file s:\macsql\data_02\compfile.btr is not open.
f. Consoel Fielsys: STop Run Encountered.
g. Forced termination Yes No
h. The console window is closed.
i. PWE is closed.

When trying Normal progression on the same workstations.
1. Enter password.
2. Choose company.
Macola never opens. Intead

a. Msl Error in MacMss.dll
Code = 0x80004002 meaning No such interface supported Tabel = Macolasql.screens..syspass_sql

b. created ms error .....
c. Sql error - open failed - syspass. Fiels system specific err
d. Panels2 error in loginw Function 07002 Pf-Delete-Dialog-Box Status: 00002 Bad-Handle
e. System error; File syspass.btr is not open
f. Consoel Fielsys: STop Run Encountered.
g. Forced termination Yes No
h. The console window is closed.

Normal progression never opens at all.

All problem machines were working fine prior to the client upgrade.

All machines are Winxp sp2.

Mdac has been re-installed on all machines for the heck of it.

No real differences in running software on these and the 45 working clients.

Of course one of the machines is the controllers machine.

Thanks

I would try copying the Macola and Exact registry hives from HKLM\Software from a good machine to a machine that is not working. If found with 7.6.400a that there was a bug in the installer that caused some of the registry entries to not be populated properly.

Thought of that. NO good.

MDAC all right. Reinstalled/repaired.

Got the actuall fix by chance though.

Before upgrading I backed up the macola directory as well as the databasees.

We copied the Macmss.dll from the "old" system and overwrote the macmss.dll put there by the upgrade and ALL clients are working fine.

I remember that when we went from 7.6.x to 7.6.300 about a year ago we had a similar problem with several workstations. Macola sent us a replacment dll. I am trying now to verify that the macmss.dll was the dll they sent us. If so then Macola is starting to scare me.

Macola Progression 7.6.400b running on a mssql server

We are still having what is probably a related issue. No problem with any of the existing win2k workstations. And no problem with PWE on new workstations,

-- BUT any new workstation that the client is installed on can not run the integrated Crystal reports. After re-instaling MDAC the crystal menu will come up, but thats all.
