Hi guys!
We're about to install a new Metaframe XPs for a customer. A small 20 user server with SA and we're about to add another 20 user client pack.
However, you can buy these with SA and without, and SURPRISE, there's quite a difference in cost...
We obviously want to use FR (present and future)on the server to get all the goodies.

The question: If we add the clientpack without SA will the users still be able to use the server if we install FR2, for instance?
I'm thinking SA on clientpacks are useful to be able to upgrade those clients to the next version of Citrix (Metaframe XP.NET???), and in other case it wouldn't matter.

Citrix licensedesk tells me this: FR2 is a benefit of SA therefore without SA associated with the second 20 user pack you will not be able to fulfill for your FR2 licenses for those 20 users.

What does this mean?
Can someone please share a light over these licenseissues, I'm getting delirium over this!

Subscription Advantage essentially means that when you install SP2/FR2, you get the features included in FR2.

If you don't have SA, then you get plain SP2 - all the hotfixes and patches, but no additional features. The same applies to FR3/SP3, whenever Citrix get round to releasing it.

ICA clients will connect to an ICA server whatever SP/FR level it is at. Of course, features will be applicable to FR level - and FR ONLY comes with SA - you can't buy the features outside of it.

Hope this clarifies things a little.

Thanx for quick respond Citrix Engineer!

So you're saying that the first 20 users that logs on will get FR additions such as Auto Client Reconnect for instance, and in above scenario the last 20 users logging on (without SA) will not get those features?

This seems to be the reason our supplier cannot get any new clientpacks without SA (they had 2 in stock, and thats the end of it).

These things are bound to cause confusion, I wish these license issues were easier to understand, and Citrix is not the worst case here...
Oh well!

Thanks!

This is exactly how it is SUPPOSED to work - but can't say for certain since I've never tried this scenario.

Citrix Licensing service SHOULD dish out the FR licenses first, then non FR licenses.

Hope this helps
