Does MS Office standard provide all the facilities to interwork fully with the server and exchange server or do we need the Pro. version for some features? We do not really need the Pro. for office use as some PCs have publisher. It's the Outlook features that are important.

Thanks for your time.

Pro gives you access, do you need that? if not, your suggestion sounds fine.

We need Outlook to share Calendars and accounts using the SBS2008 (exchange server). Does the basic do that?

Thanks for your time.

Try the 2010 beta we've been using it for a while with SBS 2008 and I can say that it is a massive leap forward in features. Outlook is brilliant and it's been a while since I have said anything that good about MS.
