I have a server from which I need to call bplist as well as bprestore. I have added the client to the altnames directory on the master server. However, what is happening is that in the logs I can see that the client is not seen as using its fully qualified name, so bprestore fails because they are under different domains.

I have changed the client name from the client GUI tool ("Net Backup Client Properties", as well as "Specify NetBackup Machines/Clients", to use the fully qualified name, and I can see these changes reflected in the registry. But the when I run those commands (bprestore, or bplist), the logs still show that the peer is using the short name.

I can add the short name to the altnames directory, but all that does it let bplist work, and bprestore still fails.

I have another server with the client software installed as well. This server will work, and in the logs I can see that this other server is sending the fully qualified name. What's strange is that the client name that it has set in it's GUI tool is the short name. So I'm at a loss as to how this can work while the other fails. I can't find any differences between these two clients.

If you have any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks

Host file?
Can you manually add a short name to the host file on both client and Media server?

pls add it on master servers /etc/hosts
as
ip shortname qualifiedname

and check ping with short name from master
check client properties from the gui "host properties" - "clients" - properties of your client "client name"
regards
