I am just diving into the SCCM/SMS/WSUS etc side of systems management. I currently have a lab setup on a couple virtual machines hosting a 2008R2 domain that will eventually become home to approximately 500 workstations or more. I have a single server right now that I am attempting to setup as a client management solution. I installed WSUS seemingly without a hitch and performed no configuration at all on it as instructed.

I have also installed SCCM 2007. After dealing with more errors than I can count, I thought I had them all worked out so I moved on to trying to install the clients. All of the logs on the ConfgMgr Console seemed to be clean for 24 hours. When I tried to install the ccm client to my test workstation, a Win7 Pro x64 system, it would not install I set the variable correctly for the sms site code. I did notice that when I defined the mp, the install seemed to terminate within about 10 seconds. If I did not define the mp, the install would run for about 10 minutes before it terminated.

Now, when I went back to look at the SCCM server, the logs are full of errors. Here are a few of them.

SMS_MP_DEVICE_MANAGER:SMS Site Component Manager failed to reinstall this component on this site system.

SMS_MP_DEVICE_MANAGER:SMS Site Component Manager failed to install this component, because the Microsoft Installer File for this component (dmp.msi) could not install.

SRS is not installed or properly configured on SRS Reporting point server "RDYUPDATE1".

SMS WSUS Configuration Manager failed to monitor WSUS Server "RDYUPDATE1".

SMS WSUS Configuration Manager failed to configure proxy settings on WSUS Server "RDYUPDATE1".

SMS_MP_Control_Manager:SMS Site Component Manager failed to install this component on this site system.

SMS Site Component Manager failed to install component SMS_MP_CONTROL_MANAGER on server RDYUPDATE1.

The two errors from monitoring WSUS were fixed, at least I though, but they came back. I have been trying to get this working for about a week and a half now and it is getting very frustrating to see such little progress.

I do have my sites setup correctly and the systems are showing up in the all systems collections. I am juts unable to install the client. Any suggestions on where to go from here.

I am pretty close to just wiping out the entire domain and starting over from scratch. I am at the point to where that seems to be the best choice, but I was hoping someone would be able to assist before it came to that.

Thanks,

You aren't saying whether you have installed R2 or even SP2, can you please explain a little more?

Did you do the AD Schema updates?

Please explain a little more exactly what you have installed and in what order?

Is your Discovery working ok? Have you configured a user account to install the client with? (it will obviously need to have permission to install software onto the remote machine).

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.

Most likely, the SCCM (windows 2008 server I assume) does not have the pre-requisites needed to be used as an SCCM server. Here is a link that might help you set this up:
I would concentrate on getting the SCCM server setup. Then install the SCCM client on the SCCM server itself. Once you get this working, then focus on installing some test clients.
