Hello, experts:

I have an Ultra80 on my network with 18GBx2 disks that I've used often as a dumping ground for files I need to move off my other machines (PCs).

Does anyone know if there is a client that can work over, say, FTP or telnet that could allow me to execute Windows-style file searches on the Solaris box? I know this is probably possible under Samba, but really only need a cheat that would allow me to search for stuff that may be buried in the nether recesses of my Unix machine.

Many thanks for guidance on this offbeat question.

I think there is nothing like that, but you can teach your users to connect via telnet and use find ;0)

Sorry I'm not a native spaeker, I'm from Munich, Germany - "Home of the Whopper", oh no, "Home of the Oktoberfest" ;-)

Hummingbird Exceed can do graphical FTP and will allow a remote X Windows session.

I've never used VNC, but suspect it might help too.

Samba would be just as easy and it's free.
