Client computers not upgrading automatically

I have a new installation - win sbs2008 with symantec endpoint.
My clients computers are seeing folders and files but SBS Console is reporting security and update statuses as either critical or unknown.
I think I have missed a step in connecting the clients and I can't get endpoint to install on the clients - any advice will be welcomed.

Did you use the ConnectComputer wizard to join the computers to the domain?
