I have a client that opens a gazillian screens and expects them all to be there the next day of business ... with updates for Security and MS there is the occasional reboot required ... when this happens the client is very upset that all the windows (mostly web sites) have to be closed/lost ... I have turned off all the auto reboot processes so we have more control but wonder if there is anyone with a reboot product that could perhaps capture all the open url's and programs, do the reboot and where ever possible restore the machine back to its previous condition (sort of like a hibernate but with the difference of the OS/Security loading from scratch) ... now I know there are complications ... ie some urls time out some cannot be gone to unless a certain sequence is followed ... others require passwords ... applications fall into that same category ... but even if the root url and or app is started I am sure this client would be happier.

Hey that's a great idea!
I'm not sure if a regular program would have the proper kind of access required to put everything back the way it was? But it's definitely a feature they should add to the next version of Windows...

I don't have any sympathy for anyone who opens that many windows. Best to have a compromise policy: machines will be updated and rebooted every weekend and leave it at that. These people will moan whatever happens so no point trying to please them all the time.

Most of MS critical updates are centered around IE so anything using IE will be lost. It is not normally possible to save the state of an app that is being modified.

Can you switch them to Firefox? if ity's shut down unexpectly it will ask if they want to restore to previous session. ie. go back to open sites

Regards
Max

Are they the same windows every day? If so why not either
have a script that opens the relevant programs/windows/web page at log on, or
put the whole lot in the start up folder with target so they all openat log on,
or am I being to simplistic?
