Dear all:
How come I cannot access the Client Administrator Options? I can open it but all the selections are locked... Did I miss somethign during the Server/Client installation?? By the way, my Server is Win Server 2000 and Clients are Windows XP Home.

At what level are you trying to configure Client Administrator Only options?

If you are doing this at the client-level, then it makes sense it is locked, since that is the default. To be able to manage individual clients, which is more administrative work than doing this at a client-group level, you will need to go to SSC Console options and check the box to enable direct configuration of clients.

I recommend configuring client settings at the client group level. (Right-Click on Groups folder, new client group, from that point on right-blick on the new client group folder to alter the configuration).

I was doing it from my SSC Server side.

Under my System Hierarchy, I have two items listed, one is Group, the other is my Server name. Under my Server name, there are all the client machines installed from the server.

Is the above the default?

Also, how come for my System Hierarchy, I have got a red diamond icon? Is that default or the color red indicates something wrong?

Right now I can go to System Hierarchy -> Symantec AntiVirus 1 -> MyServer -> right click then All Tasks -> Symantec AntiVirus -> Client Administrator Only Options to make changes. However, I still cannot make any change on the same path on client machines.

At last but not least, when I dragged some of my client manchines to the new group that I created, I have got this "Pending group assignment" status on one of the clients. For that particular client, I could never access (do scheduled scan or view even history, etc). However, my Server always shows that the virus definition is up-to-date same as the rest of my clients. What is going on here? Did the client machine have a wrong setup or...?

Thank you so much for your info.

I was doing it from my SSC Server side.

- Let me clarify. You can configure options for clients at several levels. You can right-click on the server, client-group or server-group. The folders below the groups folder are considered client-groups.
Did you indeed proceed to SSC Console options in the menu and check the box to allow "Direct configuration of clients"? (see below on where to find this option)

Under my System Hierarchy, I have two items listed, one is Group, the other is my Server name. Under my Server name, there are all the client machines installed from the server.

- Right. When you right-click on "Groups" it should give you the option to create a client-group. By default it will not show you any clients after selecting a client-group, unless you turn this feature on -> SSC Console options.

Is the above the default?

- I am not sure what you mean by default. By default there are no client groups defined, and by default you cannot change ANY options on individual clients. (see below for info on how to turn this on)

Also, how come for my System Hierarchy, I have got a red diamond icon? Is that default or the color red indicates something wrong?

- The red diamond is always there. It's not a "status". Do make sure you have a Primary server (right-click on the proper server, make server a primary server)

Right now I can go to System Hierarchy -> Symantec AntiVirus 1 -> MyServer -> right click then All Tasks -> Symantec AntiVirus -> Client Administrator Only Options to make changes. However, I still cannot make any change on the same path on client machines.

- Proceed to your menu in the SSC
- Click on Tools, click on SSC Console options
- Select the Client Filter tab
- Check the following items:

+ Show Client Machines when viewing groups
+ Allow direct configuration of individual clients
+ Indicate when clients are offline

At last but not least, when I dragged some of my client manchines to the new group that I created, I have got this "Pending group assignment" status on one of the clients. For that particular client, I could never access (do scheduled scan or view even history, etc). However, my Server always shows that the virus definition is up-to-date same as the rest of my clients. What is going on here? Did the client machine have a wrong setup or...?

- You probably have a client-firewall active on the client. Windows XP SP2 comes with a firewall. You need to add an exception. Do ONE of the following:

+ Add a port exception: UDP Port 2967
+ Add a program exception for RTVSCAN.EXE (do a search on your C-drive to locate this executable or find out the path by looking at the properties of the Symantec Antivirus service.

Thank you so much for your info.
