Would I be right in saying that Windows 2000 professional has a built-in client access license(I intend to use per-seat licensing)?

i.e. Do I need to purchase CAL's for the server as an addition to Windows clients, or does the windows client license cover it?

Thanks in advance,

Andy

If you're talking about having a Windows 2000 Professional client access a drive or resources on a Windows 2000 server, then you need to purchase a client license for every W2K Pro machine that is going to connect to the server to access it's resources, yes.

If you're accessing the server via Terminal Services from a W2K Pro client, then you don't need a server CAL, and W2K Pro has a TS CAL "built-in".

I'm Certifiable, not certified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

Because changes in client access licensing requirements affects you as you move to Windows Server 2003-based terminal servers, Microsoft offers a Windows Server 2003 TS CAL for each Windows XP Professional license that you owned before April 24, 2003.
