Hi. I am setting up a user's home PC to dial into our network. The PC has Windows XP. I installed client 4.82 for XP and now when Windows is booting up, it stops at the Novell login screen and I have to select Workstation only in order to bypass it. I am used to previous versions of the client where the login screen would only appear if a network connection is present. She only needs to login to Novell if she dials into the network so the login is just in the way. Does anyone know a way to disable the login? Thanks.

With NT, W2K and XP, the login box will always appear as you have to login to something regardless of what it is (ie. LAN, Domain, Local Workstation). This is designed to make sure that a valid username and password from one of the resources stated by me above is typed in before a user can gain access to the machine.

You can automate logon, but this is not what you want for this scenario. -----------------------------------------------------

OK. I'm not doubting you at all but I will say that before I installed the client I did not have to login to anything. I'm thinking this may be because she has the XP Home Edition??? What do you think? Thanks.

I would assume so. I have only seen Corporate Editions of XP which do require a username/password to be entered before access to the PC is gained. However, my previous post regarding the NetWare Client still stands. -----------------------------------------------------

I must confess I've not played with XP yet, but I'm very familiar with Novell.
Once you install the client it automatically sets itself as the "primary network login" in your Network properties. Prior to installing this, since you weren't getting the you probably had Window login set, which allows you to go right to the OS if you bypass the login the first time you got it. Change this setting back to Windows login and it shouldn't give you a Novell prompt.

I have the same problem so I've downloaded the Windows XP powertoys software and in the TWEAKUI part go to logon/autologon and select the "logon automaticly at system startup". fill in your user name and password (for XP) and the next time you boot it will login automaticly. when you want to login to Novell, right click the Novell icon, and choose "Netware login".
Works for me!
